Autodesk: Storytelling for impact workshop

Out of the different workshops I have done this was one of the best!
- participant feedback

In May 2023 Autodesk approached me through my association with Think Visual, looking for a workshop that would help them improve their skills around storytelling, seeing the big picture, support to be more comfortable when presenting, summarising a concept and building a story, particularly around the following key areas:

  • KPI Dashboard

  • KPIs - Audience: Federated Analytics

  • Comms Strategy

‘What I had in mind for this workshop was an activity that will help them tell a story with data or facts in a fun and more attractive way; and maybe identify some key principles and tools they can use going forward for our projects’ Alina Banea, team manager

Through a co-design approach with the client, I developed a bespoke workshop which included:

Welcome and introductions (with a warm up to storytelling)

  • Doodle lab - visual thinking tools

  • Autodesk to introduce key areas of work

Focusing on ‘what’ to share for impact

  • Audience identification, prioritisation and Empathy mapping

  • Know, Feel, Do - forecasting success

  • Focusing on the Why (then the how and the what)

  • Compiling content, information refinement / and relevance

Focusing on ‘how’ to share for impact

  • Storytelling (exploring the narrative arc and visual storyboarding)

  • Reflecting on our behaviours using Stop, Start, Continue

  • Round up  & Feedback

At the end of the workshop I asked the participants to reflect on what they might need to STOP, START, CONTINUE doing in order to make space for new approaches like these. They said:

They also offered the following messages:
